Latin name :Capsicum annuum Linn.
The Cayenne Pepper was spread around the world by Portuguese merchants in the 15th and 16th centuries. The plants will get long pods that turn from green to a golden yellow color, when ripe. Golden Cayenne pods can be 15 cm long and their appearance is less wrinkled than those of other Cayenne species. A mature plant can get up to 40 pods. Some pods of Cayenne species are 25 cm long and stay only 1.5 cm thick. This pepper is commercially grown in America, Africa, India, Japan and Mexico. They are easy to dry and good in salsas or sauces. The peppers are also good for decoration and perfect to use for making a wreath or rista, especially together with the Cayenne Long Slim.
